A primary care physician is critical for millennials. According to the Bureau of Labor, for every 1,638 Americans, there is one physician. This means that there are already millions of more patients than doctors to care for them.
As the largest and most diverse generation in American history, millennials need a PCP as much as they need the latest gadgets. Fifty-three percent of millennials find their smartphone more critical than their car, and only thirty-seven percent think a home is necessary.
With PCPs popping up all over the country, it is getting easier for millennials to take care of their health with the provision of a health professional.
What Age Group Needs A Primary Care Physician Most?
Of the fifty-three percent of Americans who need a PCP, millennials are the most likely group. Specifically, around eighty-seven percent of millennials have had at least one primary care physician visit in their life. The need for a PCP is growing with each generation as they become more and more accustomed to routine health care visits.
Millennials need to go to a PCP more than any other age group. With that, more and more millennials will need health care professionals as diseases and illnesses like COVID-19 become more common and immune to medical advancements.
What About Walk-In Clinics?
Some say that the need for a PCP is overstated. Millennials can use walk-in clinics or urgent care centers instead, but research says otherwise. A study conducted by Health Services Research discovered that less than twenty percent of millennials went to an immediate care center or emergency room instead of their regular physician.
Only twenty-six percent said they would go to a primary care physician instead of their regular doctor. In comparison, forty-three percent said that they would need to see their regular doctor no matter what.
The report also found that thirty-eight percent of millennials visit a primary care physician because they need regular checkups to monitor their health. Specifically, having a PCP means that you have a trusted relationship with your doctor and feel comfortable with them as they monitor your vitals.
Health And Wellness Checkup
According to a study conducted by the CDC, regular checkups help keep health and wellness up. Millennials need routine physicals and care from a primary physician to catch diseases before they become more serious problems.
Routine visits to a primary care physician need to be the first step in every millennial’s journey towards good health. Make sure you have at least one visit to your primary care physician per year, even just for checkups. Also, make sure you follow up with your local physician, like those at PCP For Life, as recommended by them.
